Banteay Meanchey Province Ready to Aid Residents During Water Shortages and Fires Amid Heatwave

PHNOM PENH, May 3, 2024 — The Regional Operational Command of Banteay Meanchey Province has prepared a comprehensive response plan involving various resources to assist residents facing clean water shortages during the ongoing severe heatwave. This initiative follows a directive from Prime Minister Hun Manet, emphasizing the need for all armed forces to assist the populace amid rising temperatures, particularly during the dry season.

Brigadier General Chim Bun An, Commander of the Regional Operational Command in Banteay Meanchey, has deployed both small and large vehicles, along with water tankers, ready to intervene and provide relief to the affected citizens. The region has recently seen temperatures soar above 40°C, significantly impacting daily life and increasing the risk of wildfires.

"In recent times, our forces have also been instrumental in extinguishing forest fires and assisting families affected by various disasters," stated Brigadier General Bun An. "Our unit is equipped and ready to help our citizens cope with the current heatwave and any other emergencies that may arise."

This proactive approach by the Banteay Meanchey Regional Operational Command reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding residents from the adverse effects of extreme weather conditions and ensuring that adequate emergency responses are in place.
